The Answer Is Blowin In The Wind

With our tail tucked between our legs at 5pm on April 3rd we were secured in the Wikuri portion of Marina Puerto Escondido back at our same slip they had so graciously held for us. Despite knowing that nature dictates our travel somehow it felt like defeat. Like somehow we couldn't handle the elements and had to come running home. Jeff didn't see it that way and was happy to be back at our private slip. It was what it was and we were lucky the marina had something available for us and there was nothing to do but wait it out.

The next morning we walked over to the marina office to check back in and grab keys again. It felt like a Norm at Cheers experience when we walked in the door. As we opened it everyone looked up and said, "hi Jeff. Welcome back." While super nice and kind I didn't want to be known as regulars here. We were cruisers damnit. After getting our keys we visited the little market on site which had become our regular pastime checking out what changes day by day and usually buying one or two items weather needed or not. As we walked back the wind was screaming and I had to hold my hat on my head. It wasn't really until that moment that I found peace with being back at the marina and felt glad to be secure with power and able to get on and off the boat in the blow. The rest of the day we caught up and boat projects and waited out the wind.

The next day April 5th was our anniversary. 24 years of non-marital bliss as we like to say. And as we thought about it were kinda happy to be at the marina and have a day full of activities for the special day. After breakfast we walked down the road and took a nice hike to the top of a mountain that overlooked the marina and had stunning views. As we approached the top it got rocky and I was holding on to get myself hoisted up. At the top we sat and took in the view and patted ourselves on the back for our accomplishment. It felt like a great anniversary activity. Our anniversary fell in a Wednesday which was perfect because it meant live music at the marina restaurant/bar. After we cleaned up a bit we walked over to the marina and were greeted by several servers we knew at the restaurant. The same singer from the week before was there singing a mix of American and Mexican songs and we enjoyed his accent while singing some classics. We drank and toasted our anniversary and were glad to have a place to celebrate.

As the wind continued to howl for the third day we decided to get the boat washed because the dust in the air from the wind was making everything filthy. We also spent the day working on projects, visiting the market a final time and checking out of the marina once again. The forecast looked good for the morning and we were ready to go.
